Inclusion Department

Welcome to the Inclusion Department at South View School, where we embrace and celebrate the diverse academic backgrounds and abilities of our students. Our primary goal is to create a fully inclusive learning environment that fosters a sense of belonging and ensures that every child is valued as a vital member of our school community. Situated at the heart of the school, the Inclusion Department serves as a physical representation of our inclusive philosophy and approach.

SVS Inclusion Department Team

The Team

We understand that each child is unique and has distinct academic, social, emotional, and physical needs. Therefore, our dedicated team of professionals strives to provide comprehensive support in every classroom. Through high-quality teaching practices and a robust system of assistance, we ensure that these needs are fully met. Our ultimate aim is to develop in students the necessary learning skills that will enable them to access the wider curriculum successfully. Furthermore, we work diligently to extend the abilities of our most capable students and empower all students to build their confidence and enhance their self-esteem.

In cases where students require additional learning support, we employ a graduated system of response. This ensures that individual needs are identified and addressed appropriately. At South View School, we offer an inclusive mainstream curriculum that is complemented by additional support, intervention, differentiation, and personalisation, as required. By integrating these elements into our teaching and learning practices, we create an inclusive and nurturing environment that caters to the unique requirements of every student.

We firmly believe that inclusion is a shared responsibility involving the collaboration of educators, students, parents, and the wider community. We actively encourage open communication and collaboration between all stakeholders to ensure that the best possible support is provided to each and every student. Through our commitment to inclusion, we aim to empower all students, foster a culture of acceptance and respect, and prepare them for success in an increasingly diverse world.

The Base

'The Base' is a dedicated and integral learning space that serves as a hub of support and inclusion in the Secondary School. Students who require additional assistance and guidance come to 'The Base' to access the extra support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This inclusive learning environment is designed to create a sense of belonging and empower every student to reach their full potential. 'The Base' serves as a safe and welcoming space where students can ask questions, seek assistance, and develop the necessary skills to excel academically and progress in all aspects of their lives.

In addition to being a vital learning space, 'The Base' holds a special role as a social hub for students during break and lunchtime in the Secondary School. It serves as a place where students can come together, forge connections, and build a strong sense of community. During break and lunchtime, 'The Base' becomes an inclusive gathering spot where students can socialise, relax, and engage in various activities. It offers a welcoming and supportive environment where friendships can flourish, and students can feel a sense of belonging.

Wellbeing Hub

At South View School, wellbeing and mental health stand as one of our top priorities. We recognise the critical role they play in fostering a thriving educational community. To ensure the well-being of our students, staff, and parents, we've established a dedicated Wellbeing Hub. This safe and welcoming space serves as a resource for guidance, support, and holistic wellness practices as well as a centre for organizing and coordinating support and training for wellbeing, mental health and inclusion across the school.

Our commitment to mental health extends further with the presence of a whole-school counsellor. This professional is readily available to provide guidance, counselling, and assistance to anyone in need. We believe that a healthy mind is the foundation for academic success and personal growth, and at South View School, we're dedicated to nurturing the mental well-being of our entire school community.

Students of Determination

At South View School, we recognize that some children may have identified needs or face specific barriers to learning.

  • For these students, we create an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that outlines key targets designed to address their unique requirements. These targets are reviewed on a termly basis to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments. We firmly believe that parents play an integral role in their child's education, and as such, they are fully involved in the target-setting process and engaged in all aspects of their child's learning journey.
  • To ensure that each child's needs are met effectively, we determine appropriate provision on an individual basis. This means that we carefully assess and review each student's requirements on a regular basis. Through ongoing evaluation and assessment, we strive to accurately match the provision to the specific needs of each child. The provision can vary depending on the child's requirements and may include various forms of support.
Ongoing Evaluation

At South View School, we are dedicated to ensuring that students of determination receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By regularly reviewing and assessing individual needs, involving parents in the process, and offering a range of provision options, we strive to create an inclusive learning environment where every student can flourish and reach their full potential.

In-class support

In-class support is one form of provision that we offer. Our dedicated team works closely with the classroom teachers to provide assistance and guidance to children who may benefit from additional support within the regular classroom environment. This approach enables students to participate fully in classroom activities while receiving the necessary assistance tailored to their needs.

Small group interventions

In addition to in-class support, we also offer small group interventions. These interventions are designed to address specific areas of difficulty or development for a group of students with similar needs. By working together in a targeted group setting, students can receive focused support and guidance to help them overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

One-to-one interventions

Furthermore, our Inclusion Team provides one-to-one interventions for children who require individualised support. These sessions are tailored to meet the unique needs of each student and are conducted by a member of our experienced Inclusion Department. Through these personalised interventions, we aim to provide targeted assistance and guidance to help children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their academic and personal goals.
